Yup.  Scotty in Star Trek’s “The Voyage Home” (1986) came up with this idea first.  When he traveled back in time to help out the whales, our technology hadn’t yet discovered the molecular structure of a transparent aluminum, which would be used at the time to hold a giant aquarium for the whales until they could be released back out to sea.

Thank goodness for Scotty.  Thanks to him, we now have ourselves a possible new screen protector for our phones.

Luckily we were able to decipher Scotty’s drunken Scottish accent well enough to get the blueprints and recipe for this stuff.  We always knew he was an amazing engineer…we did not know how much he valued his smart phone and Instagram account:
